  1. The article mainly talks about cutting in filmmaking. It mentions some basic procedures having to do during editing, such as selecting shots, cutting and sticking shots, rough cut and fine cut. There are also some professional terms of film editing, like match cuts, jump cuts, cutaways, cut-ins, crosscutting, and POV shots. The article also explores the relationship between cuts and time, and cuts and space. Film editor is responsible for the spectator’s sense of passing time in a film. There are three kinds of time editing: films in real time, compressing time, and expanding time. Actually editor can use both in one scene. In addition, editors are responsible for the demonstration of space in a movie. They have many choices like establishing shots, the classic sequence, and space and drama.
This article provides me a wide perspective on cutting. Only when mastering the knowledge of cuts, I am able to know cutting and shots, or montage better.
