  1. The article mainly explores the functions of montage. There are two approaches mentioned in the article to explore the function of montage. The first one is the empirical approach, the other one is toward more systematic description. Through these methods, it comes up with several functions of montage. Firstly, montage works for the narration. Montage can assure the connection of actions, making films better understood by audiences. Secondly, montage is related to ‘creative’. Montage creates movement, rhythm, and idea. The third one is its semantic function.
It is important to know the functions of montage, as my research is about montage. After knowing what can montage produce, it is more easier to use montage in an appropriate way.
