This article uses two influential theorists of the 20th century, one a philosopher, and one a director to analyse both montage, as well as apparent ‘truths’ in cinema.
Sheehan also draws great comparison from Eisenstein’s works and philosophies about film in discussing montage, noting that Vertov and himself were opposed in their discussion of cinema, as well as their creations. Sheehan divides the discussion up between Vertov and Wittgenstein to fully comprehend their ideologies, allowing a more distinct comparison to be made further on.
