  1. This interview is predominantly conducting with Mathilde Bonnefoy, an editor and filmmaker, discussing her editing process and relationship with long time collaborator director Tom Tykwer. Bonnefoy provides great insight into the how the editor and director collaborate during production and postproduction stages of film. She highlights the fact that editors often spend a number of hours editing without directorial input. Although she believes that the role of the editor is to facilitate the director in realising his vision for a film her process is one of creativity and autonomy. Bonnefoy mentions the importance of an editor’s criticism during production, highlighting intricacies noticed in the suite but overlooked by the director. Although her discussion of editing is usually in relation to the director, she relates the process to writing with sound and images.
