A 1-2 minute observational montage film + 250 word reflection.

GET THE BALL ROLLING

WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO LEARN IN REEL TO REAL?

This studio is a temporary supplement to the college. I was attracted to it when I saw its latest profile. After choosing this studio, I also rethought. What is a documentary? “Real to reality” is very different from “fiction film”. We are more focused on non-fiction works. Perhaps what we are going to learn in this class is to use the lens to record life in front of us and to make a true and beautiful story in life. How to show up on the screen. Some stories are not made before the filming, some stories may be fabricated, but life is the source of the film story. How to find the story in life is what the studio taught me. I think the documentary is a comprehensive art. It combines pictures, music sound and text. Therefore, when learning how to make a documentary, you should understand and learn these points. Documentaries and movies are sometimes different but there are also different places. Pictures, music, and words are always to express feelings and express ideas. They are put together to serve the story and their own ideas. The artistic ability of audio-visual language is perfect. Play it out. Some people say that film is the art of the director. Whose art is the documentary? In fact, I have been exposed to the documentary before. The documentary is not only real filming and recording. How to make a documentary. There are also a lot of techniques in the early production and topic selection, not just taking the camera and shooting directly. It is time to decide how to shoot your theme and characters after careful selection. In my opinion, the documentary should be the art of life. Some people think that “authenticity” is the only criterion for examining the quality of a documentary, but I am actually skeptical about this, so this is what I want to study in this studio. Whether authenticity is the only standard.

THE WOLFPACK

The film tells the story of a strange immigrant family in the New York metropolis. A parent who has 7 children at home for 14 years is not allowed to go out. The children can only watch the outside world by watching movies. They have watched 5,000 movies until recent years. Only gradually integrated into real life.

In 2010, female director Crystal Moselle accidentally encountered several boys in the street who occasionally escaped from their homes on the street. They saw that they all wore sunglasses and lined up, dressed as Quentin Tarantino’s famous “Water Dog” The characters in her made her feel very surprised. Since then, Crystal Moselle has gradually gained the trust of the family and is able to enter the “protected world” with a camera. She told the media, “This family is a primitive tribe, but they are not from far behind areas, but from the streets of Manhattan”.

Anyone who lives in the 21st-century civilization is seeing this news. The first reaction is shocking. It is hard to imagine how the seven brothers and sisters lived in a life of ruin, guessing whether they would become extremists, or It is in the heart to despise their parents’ perversion. But what is surprising is that, as the director Crystal Moselle described to the New York Times: “In fact, this boy is the gentlest, most insightful and curiosity I have ever seen, maybe In some ways, their parents are right. The most interesting thing is that in such a captive environment, the worldviews that the brothers built through the film seem to be connected with the real society. Perhaps the father’s biggest The expectation is to protect children from being “contaminated” by the outside world in a closed environment (the expression of the father in the interview), but in my opinion, environmental closure is not a reason for protection, and the practices and influences of many things will not develop as expected. “Wolf Group” happens to be the best example. The collection of about 5,000 movies and the record-keeping for several years is really amazing. The boys are convinced when facing the camera, and enough The ability to think independently, these two “abilities” are also to make boys realize that they have received a few social skills, but this is also the majority A skill that is difficult for people to master and want to have.

Review on The Wolfpack Reading

This is actually a magical “story”. Some people describe the director as if they were in the lottery jackpot: Crystal Moselle, 34, a graduate of the New York School of Visual Arts, was surprised when they met these boys (Angelo boys) on the street. The dress was attracted, just followed them on the street, and then caught up, the brothers asked her what she was doing, she said that I was making a movie, and they happened to want to make a movie, so they got to know each other. At first, Crystal Moselle didn’t decide whether to shoot a documentary. I didn’t expect the more people to contact each other but the more trust they had. The more things the brothers wanted to say, the plan changed. She has been filming in this family for almost five years. In the eyes of others, this family is a bit of a “cult” nature and even wants to save these boys. Their dictatorial father did not stop her from shooting, and showed an open attitude to the filming, only to faithfully record the story. This is a lucky place, the director can shoot freely at this home, but it may be because the story about the rebellion is over, there is no direct conflict between the children and the father in her movie, and there is a child’s complaint against the father in the conversation. There is also a strong explanation from the father, but there is no war. Only the silence between them and the evasive eyes may be the reason why this documentary is a bit dull, and the war is over.

I think this is why the director has targeted the boys mainly, and more about how they begin to integrate into the outside world. After shooting a five-year documentary, the amount of material she collected was very large, and Angelo’s family had about 500 hours of home videotapes for her. The process of editing is painful but the story in the expected value is also beginning to appear. They lost a lot, cut off the brothers’ special celebration for Quentin Tarantino’s birthday, and cut off the line of their sister’s story (their sisters have congenital diseases, not developed) sound).

In the film, in fact, the mother is a rather contradictory character, sandwiched between the husband with great control and the children who started a rebellion. In fact, the relationship between husband and wife is not clearly seen in this film. More importantly, the relationship between the child and the mother is actually not clear. The mother gives them words and education as a teacher but does not let him lose hair. This conflict between knowledge and religious beliefs has made this story a lot of research. The place.

This film is reminiscent of another masterpiece “Hunting the Friedrich” long ago. It is about the hidden family relationship, the parents’ suspicious dissatisfaction, and the first-person perspective of numerous family videos. This is not a first-person documentary, but it is not a strong documentary of the director. We can hear the director’s voice. She tried to ask her father. Have you ever thought about apologizing to the children? Father Oscar’s answer, hiding the real answer and the apology, the director also gave up.
