Embed two different edits of a key sequence in my media work and write a 350 word reflection on the aims, strengths and weaknesses of each.
Aims:
- Talking about his current life, his hobbies and he wants to take after his mom.
Strengths:
- Music fits into video properly, fades in and out properly
Weaknesses:
- This part is too long
- “Phone call” part could not persuade audience that “he is doing studying or busy with work”
- “Buying a house” part is meaningless
- “Car view” part is not suitable
- He talks about “how his mom takes care of him when he is a child”, this part is too long, too specific. Also, it is not related to his current life.
- “The China education system” part is not necessary
- The last scene looks so weird
- The frames are not good, sometimes the black bar cuts the interviewee’s head, sometimes the headroom is a little bit of big
- We use fade into black and it attracts audiences’ attention
- The frame is a little bit dark, need to work more on colour correction and colour grading
Aims:
- Talking about his currently life, his hobbies and he wants to take after his mom.
Strengths:
- Fast pace, get rid of unnecessary video clips, e.g. doing exercise at gym, phone call and so on
- Insert his childhood photo, show his childhood life is under his mom taking care
- The music chosen
- The questions chosen
Weaknesses:
- Music doesn’t fit into video very well
- The piano sound does obviously not fit into his hand movements
- The last scene is still not good, the frame is over-exposed, but we don’t have other B-roll to replace it
- Audience know the camera movement in some parts, and that is not what we want
- Before his photo shows up, his words finish suddenly
- There is a gap between he finished his sentences and his childhood photo, I don’t like it, but other crew members like it, I think it is not necessary and makes the audience confused
- The childhood photo zooms out a little bit fast
- Some shots need to stay longer, e.g. the mid shot for he plays the piano
