Film Light – Reflection on the presentation

I choose to reflect on Conor, Julie and Teresa’ presentation as they were experimenting with dual contrasting colours which shares similarity with what we experimented with colours. My group was basically using different colours and lighting sources to create different moods. Their experiment of putting dual contrasting colours together is interesting. I feel their experiment can really go with music video. They experiment the dual colours lighting on different people. I like the idea that they tried with different backgrounds and angles. The two contrasty shadows of the lighting that they created were cool and I wonder how they could apply it into their second piece. I start to think about the application of their lighting and I feel this gave me an feeling of Sci-fi movie. For example, the lighting shown when they tried to change the different gels can be used to portray the lighting on a spaceship.

I think they can plan carefully of what kind of story they are going to shoot and then adjust the dual colours lighting. Using the light to better illustrate the story is the purpose of lighting. I really like what they did and I might suggest they can try with different combination of dual colours.

Their experiment inspires me to try with different colours instead of one in my shooting. We shoot our first video in three different locations however there was only one of them shoot with 1k Fresenel light. We chose to use a pink gel and added a filter from the camera in that clip. In our next video we decided to focus on only one mood and try to use both indoor and outdoor lighting to portrayed our story. The colours to be used are more than only one. The emotions that different colours bring to the film are really fantastic and interesting to look at. I want to explore more in the next piece and use colours and different lighting sources to build up the story.
