Lectorial Ten: Wrap Up

First last class of the semester.

This morning’s lectorial was essentially a wrap up for the semester before our final assessments and the long awaited break. There were a few reminders about Project Brief 4, such as the typical yet wise advice to back up our files, but majority of the class focused on the structure of next semester’s studios and how the ballot selection works.

The studios will be smaller and more focussed than Media One has been, around a single question or topic.  We won’t know what studios are on offer until we hear the pitches in week 14. I’m really looking forward to finding what sort projects we’ll be making.

All the studios will follow the same assessment schedule as Media One, meaning all of us will have work due at the same time, even if we’re in different studios.

Unlike enrolment for other courses, where it’s first in best dressed, the studios are allocated using a ballot system. The ballot is open for a week after the pitches, during which time we all have to nominate our top 3 preferences in order. The tutors spend a week working out the timetable, before letting us know which studio we’ve been allocated.

I’ve enjoyed Media One, but I’m really looking forward to the studios. I’m excited to start doing work that’s a little more focused around a central idea.
