Finding an interview subject

Institutions. Is that a good enough intro?

The workshop for this week (04/05/16) was full of open discussion and thing alike. In groups, we traded information regarding our found articles and discussed them in detail. Following that was a small presentation of ourĀ findings to the rest of the class, which gave opening to a small Q&A from the other groups. I think this little Q&A was great for finding weaknesses in our information. It helped identify areas where we lacked information in.

This workshop for me however was more about finding a potential interview subject. With the other groups, it seems to be a lot easier to find potential interview subjects (that could be very biased). For our topic – institutions, we decided to go down the route of news broadcasters, and the implications social media has had on them. Consequently, that requires our interview subjects to have some sort of relevance to news broadcasting. But guess what? No one in our group knows anyone in the news industry! Yay!

Luckily enough, our tutor – Louise Turley, happened to work in the ABC a while back. So it was my mission to see if she knew anyone that would be keen for an interview. Thanks to her, we now potentially have an interview with the senior reporter at the ABC Newsroom – Kerry Ritchie.

From what I gather on the ABC website, it looks like she’s been a journalist for quite a while, which is perfect for getting some insight into how Kerri has had to adapt to the changes that social media has imposed on news intitutions.

I’ll keep you guys posted on the progress with the interview, but I’m definitely looking forward to learning a thing or two from an industry professional!

  1. Great post but the logo is not for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation but the American Broadcasting Company. Just sayin!
