Deliver us From Evil 2014

So, I wasn’t sure how to begin.. and talking about the latest film i’d seen seems like a good way to go.

“Deliver Us From Evil”

star in what seemed a rather thrilling film.

To my disappointment, though, this film failed to do what it promised it would… scare me.

*SPOILERS*

Coming from ‘Sinister’ director Scott Derrickson I had some pretty high expectations. Deliver us From Evil took the bone chilling music and the un-easy tone from ‘Sinister’ but unfortunately that was all. Whilst i’ll admit there was a single scene where I did cover my eyes, when Sarchie and Mendoza are playing back the Lion enclosure footage, and the possessed man jumps into an extreme close up and it turns out only Sarchie can see it. But that single scene was it. It was an extreme let down.

Whilst the acting was good, great even coming from the possessed man Santino played by , his facial expression whilst tied to the chair and his portrayal of the exorcism was the most exciting part.

What ruined the film for me was when Sarchie was searching the basement of a family who had sworn they were haunted. Whilst down there he discovers the body of a man, a painter, and maggots begin flying out of his eye and his stomach explodes with a bluey-gray liquid spilling out. The graphics were embarrassing for a movie made in 2014. It was so bad. My suspension of disbelief was shattered and I couldn’t stand the rest of the film. If they couldn’t get them to look real, they shouldn’t have used them.

All I can say was that it was a good attempt at a horror/thrilling film, but not good enough.
