Back on the grind during Week 7! Assignments have been piling up and I’ve been trying my best to knock them out of the court! Unfortunately, for the exercise that was due on Wednesday, I have failed to shoot it due to the lack of availability of the actors. I really hoped to find 3 persons for the scene I chose last week. I did, however, come up with a methodology of the way I’ll be coming about to film it.

Another Friday morning class comes by but today was a special one. We had the chance to present our ideas in front of my classmates, Robin and two lovely guests. At the end of the presentations, they gave us well informed feedbacks on our work. I was happy with what I presented, it’s just that after hearing myself present I did realise a couple of things. My intent of what I wanted to say regarding the process of the exercise did not come across as well as I hoped it to be. Another thing is that Robin and I talked afterwards and he made me realise the biggest issue a cinematographer goes through is the communication with the directors. Whether or not I’ve done 10 to 50 films as a cinematographer, I have to adapt to learning how to communicate with an amateur director. This is really important because, as a cinematographer, if I fail to understand what the director is saying; I potentially harm his or her film.

I now have a better “professional” understanding of how to, or at least how I should, work with directors and other group members. At this stage of the semester, I am feeling comfortable with what I have adapted so far. I also see some self improvement and I’ll be putting that into work soon enough I hope!
