Passive Audiences

Back in year 12 we spoke about audiences as passive where they were often manipulate and brainwashed by the media. In today’s society to an extent we follow the news and read the newspapers taking a large assumption that its based off reality but the reality of that is we can’t be sure how true everything is. I remember discussing George Orwell’s War of the Worlds broadcast on the radio, in that time where he read out a part of his story. Wide spread Panic was caused over the area that tuned in to the media as they took the broadcast as legit believing they were being abducted by aliens. the audiences fled and took off from their homes, this is a brief example to show the effect the media can have on audiences as much as it can settle audiences by making a situation seem less serious than it is, it can also fabricate it and appear and worse than it is.
