Much more research is required before we can begin to start our production process. Our ambition is to find more information about the causes, triggers as well as coping mechanisms that can help one deal with the disorder in order to create an accurate storyline. According to David Leonard, Australian Psychiatrist he writes that the common reason as to why people become effect to DID is due to ‘childhood trauma creating disruption in the persons developing personality.’ DID creates ‘a number of separate identity states reflecting the time and the developmental stage at which the trauma was experienced’ (Lenonard, 2016). The research article shares clinical examples of the disorder and also discusses the treatment and challenges faced when dealing with DID. A non fiction Vice profile documentary features a positive talk on ‘DID.’ Kim Noble embraces her multiple alters because they create spectacular art, do not harm her loved ones, and have taken on her pain. She also states that mental health issues do not define the person. By basing the main character around ‘Kim Noble’ We can hopefully help show this mental illness in a more positive light.
Multimedia platforms can help individuals with disabilities or illnesses, identify, communicate and connect with people going through similar situations giving them a sense of hope and belonging. A journal titled making spaces makes note of the diverse range of digital platforms that are now made available online that allow the chance for multiple stories to be shared. In reference to this an article written by Whitney Monaghan talks about the influence of online spaces and the many opportunities that are now made available online. Monaghan talks about the flexibility of online series and how televison has evolved where audiences are now, “encouraged to participate in storylines by interacting with their favourites characters via message boards and email.” (Monaghan, 2017)
For our final project we have decided to give audiences the opportunity to follow the character’s POV and navigate their own story line. In order to do this, we need a good online platform. Feedback that was suggested in my previous blog was to consider using an interactive website called Eko. From the article ‘Interlude Becomes Eko’ by Kubota, he argues how viewers are given the freedom to decided the flow of the storyline in order to highly engage with the film. Interactive stories “represent a new medium geared toward a generation whose choices matter” (Eko CEO, 2016). An Eko project titled ‘we need to talk” is an example of an interactive story that gives viewers choices to deiced on their own narrative path. The storyline was about a breakup and the choices that were provided consisted of the multiple situations that can happen in a breakup. Throughout the project more choices were made available. Visually displaying multiple situations and scenarios through the POV of a character is what we have decided to do, however being able to film all these scenarios and edit them before the deadline is a constraint that we have.
