NOTICING MEDIA
In the second half of this week’s lectorial we were sent out in groups to various parts of the city to document the different types of media we came across. My group was assigned Bourke Street Mall and we did not have a shortage of media to document, that’s for sure. It is very commercial area containing the Myer flagship store, Melbourne’s GPO and so many other stores. Media in the form of ads were the most prominent.
While actively looking for media, I realised how they are constantly just part of our lives. So much so that we don’t really ‘notice’ them anymore because we know they are there. The question of whether or not something classified as media or not also came up a lot more. Usually, we just let media fade into the background if it is not something we are interested in.
We came across:
- Melbourne Fashion Festival Banners
- Digital Billboards
- Buskers
- Advertising
