Ready Camera One – A2 Blog Post 2

Leading up to the day of production, I went on to research on the presentation of a game show. First, I watched several game show videos on YouTube to view and hopefully emulate how they produced the show. The common tropes that I noted down were the camera angles, the full screen and lower third graphics, moving intros, suspense background music, and a few others.

While I wanted to try and have a full-screen graphic with the contestants’ faces present as shown in the photo, I also thought of lower third graphics for the questions so that the viewers could see the answers on the live programme.

During our group discussion, we discussed about the layout of the set, and we came up with the idea of having podiums for each contestant with a buzzer. We also came up with a backup plan of having two high chairs for the contestants and the host standing in the circumstances of no podiums available. Furthermore, we decided to include a desk accompanied with props, i.e. books and a backdrop, not to make the set feel empty and bland. By adopting mise en scène, we wanted to create the illusion that it’s being filmed in a large studio, and not just in the corner of an empty studio. Going back to the research of watching game shows, I also suggested if we could add cued on sound effects for when the contestants get a question correct/incorrect. However, we concluded that it would be difficult on production day and relied on green and red studio lights to portray them.
