A film that is quickly becoming an international phenomenon is Joshua Oppenheimer’s The Act of Killing.


 

In following Anwar through his reenactments of violence, Oppenheimer interrogates his subject in an intriguing way, eliciting a truth that can only be revealed through a direct confrontation with the past, and the creeping, horrific empathy that it entails.
