Soon I’ll be writing my final blog post for this course, which is the compulsory reflection on my finished work, but before I do that I wanted to do a shorter reflection on this course itself.

I came into this with no knowledge of music video production. The closest I could say that I’d ever come was setting a video of me burning my school books at the end of Year 12 to music. All the projects I’ve ever made have been for me, not a client, and have been predominately done by myself, not with a group. I had no intention of working in music video when I started the course.

Now, its amazing all the things I’ve learned and absorbed in six short weeks. While I have other areas I’m passionate about, music video production has been a seriously fun experience, and I think I’ll be offering my services to several of my friends bands, not so much as a serious career move, but because I enjoy it and would enjoy and be confident making them a music video.

Even without wanting to go down the music video pathway, this course has given me invaluable lessons in teamwork, project management, technical prowess, customer service and other areas that I feel like I can apply to any area of media. I’ve never taken on a project of this size, and keeping track of all the variables and their delegation among the team has vastly improved my organisational skills, and I now have valuable insight on what to do next time I’m faced with a challenge of this magnitude.

The skills and traits I’ve picked up along the way have been great, but for me the greatest benefit of this course has been the confidence. Any other project I’ve done has been for a grade, or for myself. Never have I had to actually produce something for a client that will be used by them, that is a realĀ product. I now feel much more comfortable advertising myself as a media student and a media maker, and that has been invaluable.
