Week 7 – Project Proposal…

The mid semester break gave me an extra bit of time to think about the upcoming major project. After much deliberation, I’ve decided I’m going to make a film entirely on my phone. I’ve been thinking about what I’ve learned this semester, and in reflection, I’ve come to realize how much I’m in love with the romanticism of the aesthetic of the frame. I want my film to kind of represent an ambitious project and encompassing my love for aesthetic using themes of darkness.

The rough outline of project right now is that it aims to explore the way film is observable through the lens of an iPhone camera, and the way in which it differs from that of a mainstream frame observable in common cinemas. As such, this is not to say that mobile cinema should be considered mainstream, I’m looking to kind of bridge the gap; filming with the mobile camera in a cinematic way, and not in a “mobile footage” kind of way.

I was a little worried that my lack of visual representation would hurt me in presenting to the class, there are very few mobile films that I was impressed enough with to show and display. However, I was met with largely good feedback. There were some suggestions on particular apps I could use to enhance my quality of film. I greatly appreciate the feedback because in doing some unofficial test shots, a big problem seems to be the fact that the phone isn’t greatly stable, something you don’t have to worry about too much when it comes to cameras. I’m hoping to have this done in 3-5 weeks, as the shooting process shouldn’t take too long, I have a rough idea of what I’m going to do.
