Our task was to simply interview someone, using a handheld shot rather than using a tripod. I was partnered with Alex and our friend Matilda happened to be around also, so we interviewed each other.

The first thing I want to mention is that I am veryyyyy aware that the audio is terrible!! We tried our best to fix it prior to filming but we obviously failed. For some reason the shoe microphone would not work, and the internal mic would pick up the interviewer a lot clearer than the interviewee. I plan on one day taking this camera home so I can play around with it and figure this riddle out.

Alex interviewed me first, and despite the task’s intention of practicing a hand held shot, we both sat down on the floor in a stationary spot – so there wasn’t much to edit.

When I interviewed Alex and Matilda I thought that we should actually move around, so I followed them while filming and interviewing which was a struggle because not only was the camera heavy but I knew the camera’s mic would pick up my voice a lot better than the others so I had to stay as silent as I could. I did not succeed at this, and there are moments where you can hear my breathing (making me sound very unfit). I also forgot how to zoom in while I was interviewing, but I edited that part out.

When editing I didn’t really have any creative ideas in mind, rather that I just needed to edit the bad bits out. I of course will not have this mentality for the major project as I hope to have greater technical skills by then. I did have to add more gain to the audio because the talent were far too quiet.

Sometime this week I hope to interview a friend of mine in order to practice the Art of Interviewing so I don’t seem like a fool when it comes to filming at Gertrude Contemporary.
