Week 4 – Initiative post

As a K-pop fan, I love to watch Korean shows, dramas and comics and I find out that for those media in Korea, they like to use sound effects to make it more entertaining.

Here, I found this video about Korean sound effects on Simon and Martina’s Vlog.

In Korea, they use interesting sound effects to describe any kind of sound. It makes the media more interesting and let the audience feel that they can hear the sound but actually is not. And I agreed with what Martina said that Korean sound effects are much cuter than English as they tried to make the sound from nose.

Next, I want to discuss about background music (BGM) in Korean show. They use slogan and some amusing sound effects to set as BGM. For example, Running man, a very popular show in Korea. In the show, there are 7 fixed member who have different personalities. And for the different personalities, they have different BGM. For instance, Kim JongKook who is set as a scary tiger in the show. So every time when he comes out, there would be a serious and mystical BGM for him. This result in whenever the particular BGM is out, the audiences could understand what is going to happen next. Here, I found a video in Youtube which presents the BGM in the show of Running Man.

In conclusion, I think “sound” play in a significant role in media. Sound effects and background music make the media be more interesting and let the audience won’t feel boring of watching the show. Personally, I feel that media in Korea is doing very well at the part of creative “sound” and hence, it attracts many audiences from all over the world where they may not even understand Korean.
