After presenting the pitch in class today I received some useful feedbacks from the panel.

The first feedback I got was I could try to use a change of focus and creating strong contrast in a still photograph to draw my audience’s attention and guide their eyes to a particular spot on the photograph. Since I’m still doing photography about textures of objects people use in their daily lives for my task 4 project I think this feedback is doable. Because creating strong contrast will definitely make help the photo to show the texture in a better and clearer way. However a change in focus on a still photograph will create some technical difficulties for myself. I have only tried to use this technique on my light painting photographs or other long exposure photographs. Like this photo:I’m actually not sure if I can use this technique on an “everyday object”, but I’m sure if I managed to achieve it the photo will look very abstract and artistic. So I will definitely try this during the making process.

The second feedback I got was I could write down a list of “everyday objects” and see if I can find a good texture in those things. So I need to find an interesting texture in those objects instead of taking a photo of an object because it has a good texture in the first place. This sounds like just saying the same thing in an opposite sentence structure but it actually got me thinking about the theoretical things behind my makings. Today Hannah also mentioned that when I take photos I might be finding textures first instead of finding an object first. After the pitch I reminisced how I took the photos during the experiment and what Hannah said is actually right. For some of the photos I did notice the textures before I noticed the object. I took a photo of it because of its texture but not because it is something I use in my daily life. This is a very useful piece of advice and I will make sure I will start will noticing the object itself first during the making process of task 4 project.

The third feedback was giving the list of objects to my friends and ask them to take photos of the objects they use or see in their daily lives. This can help me get a lot of information out of what other people notice in their daily lives and this kind of investigation will help me to gain more perspectives for my own project making. The theme of the project is “finding the beauty in your daily lives”. It will be very good to have some objects from other people’s lives instead of just things I use. The photos will be more diverse and interesting if I can go to my friends and take photos of their objects that I find very interesting and worth recording. However this is also quite a lot of work for other people and I’m not sure if so many people would like to help me with this but I will try get as many photos as possible.

In conclusion the feedbacks I received today are very useful and definitely helped me develop how I wanted to make my final project. Now I have more things to tryout and more ways of noticing. It is always nice to have different perspectives and new ways of producing works.
