Our final project turned out better than we expected. We had very small mishaps with audio and finding an actor but other than that, everything went smoothly. Our location was far but definitely worth all the fuel, muddy roads and time getting there. The mood and location matched to well with our vision, that we could not think or see ourselves filming anywhere else. Our actress was very confident in front of the camera, which meant we did not have to worry at all and she portrayed the character to perfection. I do not see myself doing anything differently, except focusing on the audio just as much as the visual.

We had a lot of fun creating this experimental short and could not have asked for a better studio, class and leader. During the first stages of our production we were unsure of a lot of things, first was our dynamic as a group, the poem, how to film…etc but as always we played it by ear and it all came together. I have definitely and significantly furthered my media practice this semester. I have learnt a lot about my self, as an individual and group member. I have learnt the value in consulting with other people and hearing their opinions, which will be different to mine in a very positive way. I have learnt the importance of assigned tasks and roles, the dynamic between camera operator, sound operator, director etc and how essential they are in creating something meaningful. I have a newfound love and appreciation for cinema, that is drastically different to six months ago. I always look at how characters move through a scene, how lighting and colour grade is used to establish mood, how the film maker uses images to convey meaning…While the end of my degree in Media slowly but surely comes to a close, and the nerves kick in, I hope that I can look back on my work as a student and reflect on how much I’ve changed and furthered myself. This project will be testament to my future work, that hard work, team work and patience pays off.
