This week it was time for our live-to-tape studio production. On Tuesday we spent the class planning out our show for Friday, which felt pretty stressful. My main group was ‘The Big Idea’, a talk show where we planned to hold a debate between ‘Pauline Hanson’ and ‘Scott Morrison’ over the recent One Nation controversies.

As we hadn’t sorted out our talent yet, I worked with the director in writing a detailed script so that whoever ended up on stage didn’t have to ad-lib or have to do any extra research on the topic. Fortunately, we had already downloaded some EVS clips and created our graphics, so while the script writing was somewhat time-consuming it meant that we only had to focus on that during Tuesday’s class.

Unfortunately, Erika, our director couldn’t make it on Friday. So I stepped up from being just the producer to the director as well. I’m not super into being in charge of things, but with the help of the rest of our group, it was somewhat smooth sailing. As we had our script already prepared and on the auto-queue and had the assistance of some really good talent, it was just a matter of timing the EVS and graphics. With the exception of a couple of timing errors, I think the finished product went really well! I feel a lot more confident taking control of the production side of things now, as I realized that directing/producing isn’t as hard as it looks.

I also assisted with the Get Fact! quiz show. With this one, I only had to switch-board which I honestly found really fun. While the tone of ‘The Big Idea’ was somewhat serious, Get Fact! was a really fun show to work on and went quite smoothly despite a few EVS sound issues!
