2020: DOCUMENTING THE ENVIRONMENT

e-waste

A Film by Jodie

‘E-waste’ is a reflection of the confusing and complex research process I encountered, in an attempt to learn more hazardous exports in Australia. This endeavour to grasp legislations and enforcement issues proved to be unfathomable, when toxic materials are unknowingly dismantled in developing countries. In the beginning of my research I asked many friends and family if they knew what e-waste was to which very few knew. This film briefly outlines what e-waste is, however it interrogates the ethical implications of illegal exports.

Advancements in technology are growing exponentially with new inventions and constant updates. ‘E-waste’ as a desktop documentary attempts to engage a modern audience when representing a problem that is uninterrupted, however viewed through a platform that is familiar and new. Witnessed on a screen, ‘E-waste’  is a reminder of the consumerist society we live in through the visual effects and ironic viewing experience.
