week 11 consultations

For the week 11 consultations you should bring in a “rough cut” of your task four assessment. As noted your projects might take various forms so bring what you consider to be a “rough cut” of what you’re making.

You will also need to show where you’re up to on your timeline and how your work is responding to the biggest, big, and small things you wrote out in week 9.

You will need to show where your portfolio of blog posts is up to and what research is informing your making.

Like our week 7 consultations these will be done in small groups.

Please book into a consultation time via this form.

a reminder: end of year studio presentation & website

As noted in Wednesday’s workshop Chloe, Mia, Michael and Molly will be working on the end of year studio presentation & website. I’ve given you all access to update the studio exhibition blog, which you can find here.

Some info from Paul Ritchard…

Presentation

Each studio will put together an 8 minute (no more) presentation summing up the journey of the studio over the semester. The exact nature of the presentation will be developed by the students. It could contain:

  • excerpts taken from the ‘Weekly Updates’
  • highlights from the works produced for the semester
  • You could talk about your journey in the studio – (you don’t have to sell the studio)

Website

  • You will also create a studio website with links to the finished work produced in the studio (including the final video presentation).
    • Examples of websites here  Blog Archive – Ways of Making 2016 sem 1 is worth looking at as a simple template to display lots of students/groups work

week seven & eight

Just a quick reminder about what’s happening in week seven and eight.

Week 7

Wednesday 6th September – Discussion on some ways to think about what you’re making + workshop on reflective writing to get us thinking a little deeper about what we’re doing for task 3. We’ll also work out the running order for the pitches.

Thursday 7th September – Individual group consultations, which you booked into here. This is to get some constructive feedback on your task 3 experiments and what you’re planning on pitching as your task 4 project.

Week 8

Wednesday 13th September – Pitches to panel.

Thursday 14th September – Pitches to panel, with some time to write-up your reflection to Part II of Task three.

Friday 15th September – Task three due at midnight.

how this studio will run…

In our first session of Seeing the Unseen we discussed ways in which the studio will run based on what you found difficult, liked and didn’t like about your previous studio and Media 1 experiences. Some things we came up with in terms of how the studio will run are:

  • working with ideas/topics/projects/readings in small groups first and then sharing in larger groups is effective
  • getting feedback on work-in-progress is good in terms of improving our projects
  • showing finished projects to the class is good in terms of seeing what everyone is doing
  • blogs are a struggle so we will work toward making posts more prominent by getting feedback on them as a weekly activity
  • we should work on summarising the readings first before opening a discussion on what people think
