week 3 reflection

In this week, it is about audio. We use ZOOM  F4 field recorder and a couple of different microphone setups to record some interviews.

ZOOM F4 is a very ‘PRO’ equipment, there are a lot of battens and parameters need to figure out, like the sound level, channel select, recorded file, I cannot set it good without the guideline. The quality of the audio that recorded with the big RODE microphone is much better than the small short gun on a DSLR. It has more than one audio in channel to record, which means we can use multi microphones and recorded different people’s voice at the same time. It also has a headphone jack, we can listen to the value and level of the sound, and adjust the parameters easily.

Interviewing strangers is quiet difficult, not everyone glad to be interviewed. we need to told the people what the interview is for, and will it be put online, and some other details of the interview. When interviewing, we need to listen the value and level of the sound through the headphone, and adjust them to a comfortable level very quick. The microphone need to be pointed to the interviewer to make sure the voice can be recorded by the microphone.
