There are 3 documentaries that I really like from this week, the first one is strawberry ,another one is also from class — the “video letter” to his son. And the last one is the Ten Meter Tower. This film is really simple on expressing but it worths taking time to watch it. This film reflects the feelings of standing on the ten meter platform in normal people and compare to the athlete by the end. This film showed a sense of “less is more”, it adopt least on scene and words, background music (it doesn’t use any music until the last scene of athlete),instead it spends most time on the performance of participant.
According to Fox (2018), In the observational mode, the camera records the uninterrupted actions and interactions of the environment before it. the documentary’s producers are unseen and unheard. There is no interaction with participants, potentially leading to a power imbalance between producer and observed subject. That’s the approach that I want to use in my final project. I planed to show a different family structure by interviewing a little girl called Emily, who is daughter of my boss. I want to explore how her family take care of her and what kind of cultivating the parents maintain for their kids, and also how do they deal with the two different type of diet in daily (since my boss is vegetarian but her husband is not, so I am pretty interested in how they educate Emily and what kind of choice they will lead her to). From this point of view, it’s better to not interrupt her, or make her nerves , I would like to use the most little device to observe her life.
It was so fun to have watched several type of documentary this week, they are so different and creative as a documentary. I also want to make my project in a poetic style since I will focus more on feelings, wish all the things goes well and achieve to the effect what I expect.
