After showing other’s work from today’s class, i found out several works that really inspired me.

The first on that interested me is by Ziggy’s study 3, he used triangles, sound and color to present a sound’s movement, or the way a sound is,it draws sound.  it remind me of sound ray but it gives more potential on its’ form，because it’s random made.  I like how he used a lot of stuffs that i didn’t know, and the way he arranged it is pretty neat. Also it’s very inspiring on the idea itself, it somehow connects several irrelevant elements. it’s new world to me but notices me to try more new things and scrabble then up.

 

2nd work :

We got several types of work today, second one got me inspired is Chris’ group work. As he showed me before, he explained that they are using mouse-sensor to show different forms in the images, i can see the images changing as long as i change speed during moving mouse. So i think i can also adopt it into my next work.

 

3rd work :

The work done by Jeremy is cool as well, and i got that he was trying to show the difference a sound can make, or in another word, it enhanced the existence of sound, if we see Ziggy’s work as a a drawing of sound, then Jeremy’s work is highlight the sound out from normal behavior. However the most I learn is from the Camille’s comment, simply and clearly showed the utilize if groove,it would work out well in my study 1 too. In a nutshell, the way he combined sound, camera, sensor and effet on image is really cool.

Study 1

The main elements that i used in study 1 are : jit.grab and metro. The metro is applied for the clock , although it maintains a high speed click so i adjusts it to 5000 millisecond which is around 5 seconds. Recording to my artist, he had to clock in every hour, i want to make a mini one so i make it records me in every 5 sec.

In this work, i think what good is simple and easy to understand.

However in the progress of my work, i do found out there were some problems that i hope i can make it come true but i still unable to figure out. First,while i want to create a photo wall, which helps show / list all the “history” photos, But i found out that to make it automatically taking photo and then send to the “photo wall”, it is a challenge to me. I tried exportimage ,and jit.matrix .  I still need to figure out how to activate it and how to really export images. The challenge of jit.matrix to me is, while i attend to add another display window, i don’t know how to add in objects in. There were so many challenges for me in the work, spent the whole day on reading instruction but the only one message that i updated is “clear” (because i think there supposed to have an “end” button which shows the plan is end).

So far the skill i can handled is only a few, some ideas in my mind but unable to work it out. But i think what i learn from the process is a creative work is developed from :a few key words and a main concept. Nevertheless, i could feel how craftsman see their work: perfect works come from desire, that desire to be more content-rich and detailed.

 

Study 2 :

The second work is the one based on the “angry room” by showing audience controversial propaganda images and record their feelings. It’s fun for me to join the work, since at that time i have no idea how an art work can be done on Max, Working with them got me learned that adjusting is really important for creating a work. At the beginning, we thought we might need several cameras settled  in the room and print out some propaganda so that we can really “create a room”. However all of this ideas can actually finished on Max. We started to think something more realistic , and fixed little by little.

I think we doing good at interacting in this work. Audience is the main operator but also is the experiencer, it’s straightly present how people react and lead them to have a look of themselves and might even trigger a further self-reflection when they see their reaction.  It’s interesting that people might get confused in the beginning but get a little surprised by the end.

In this work, we utilized several elements to connect together, the first thing comes out is the propaganda, and then we use time-delay to capture audience’s facial expression, then audience will see the recording. In this work, i was thinking about how to arrange the 10 images, to put it on 1 by 1 or just show it all, since we need to make sure the time is exactly perfect on linking up, or audience will missed the images and starring at a confused face. Therefore, the one thing we need to improved is either cut off some of images (make it more simple and neat), or we can apply a mouse sensor to make sure get a perfect time to take photos.

 

Study 3 :

My main idea of this work is “Alarm clock” , and it’s based on my first and second work.  So what i learned from this time about creative is mix and develop. Basically, i got idea from Tehching Heish, about the time machine, and his work developed a deeper thinking on “history, me , recording” . The second work adopted elements of delaying, and recording too, but it’s more about short and temporary moments.  Therefore, i thought out the ideas of “alarm clock”, which surrounds by an concept of “cutting me off from the past”, it’s another meaning of time.

This work is simple, but utilizing of two sounds i used might confused audience, without explaining people may see it as a nonsense work. Also, i still poor on skills so i can only make a simple device, hence there is the shortage on getting any further development so far( most of time , trying a new object / button / message just never work out for me, i think it’s because i didn’t learn well about the basic, i was lost about when it suppose to connect to output ; as well as not clearly knowing about what an new instruct can do and it’s meaning.

In a nutshell, this work didn’t work so well, I still get a lot to learn , a very important tips for me is to communicate more with others in the class. And hopefully i would doing better next time.

 

 

 

 

Study 3

In the study 3, i determined to make an alarm clock, but the different is i want to make more clear on the “sleeping mode” and “wake up mode”, so there are two appliances that plays quiet sound and another sound is loud.

Basically, all of my work are limited by my skills so that i still not able to create anything too fancy. it’s interested that my work are mainly focus on the “time”, but work 1 is related to recording the past, the study 3 is just a short, temporary moment, and somehow cut the past off from present.

Study 2

In the work 2, we tried to create an “angry room” by presenting people 10 controversial propaganda images, at same time,Max will record how audience reacts to the works and show them by the end. We focusing on the relationship between operator and audience, and audience with themselves. I guess even people might not notice how they react when they are browsing social medias, so this mechanism refers to a mirror to reflect people’s facial expression.

We came out the idea of “angry room”, then we estimate what elements that fits to our needs, so it comes up with: images, several monitors and photo shooting with timer. Because of the restriction on devices, we changed mind and plan to make a similar mechanism, so now, we use a mechanism for delaying ,and showing images ,also  set timer for photo shooting.

 

 

Study 1

In my study 1, i had a simple idea which is based on the idea of “time clock”, the art work by Tehching Hsieh. I tried to show a sense of restriction on time.

In Teching Hsieh ‘s work , i see how he emphasis elements of space and time along his work. He tried set a one-year plan, then set limits on either space or time on one person(usually himself). In his second one-year project, he has to clocked in every hour and take photo of himself. i see how he present the idea of  the cage of time.  So I wanted to create a similar mechanism, which is a “clock in” machine. it’s able to take photo in the specific time and it will keep going until people shut down the plan.

To present the sense of inconvenient, fixed and simple, the tools he adopted usually as simple as he could. Starting from this point, I adopt two elements to restore the “clock in “machine — Jit.grab and metro.  Jit.grab is used for taking photos, and Metro is utilized on time setting. Combing both to create a machine what is able to count down and taking photo automatically.
