In week 2’s lecture, we are asked to make a group and go out to find media in life. We did talking about “what is media” in the class, Its a carrier of imformation to people. Media is not abstract, People are able to lists so many examples about media. In the class I was still a little bit unclear about it but I still tried to do the work. And below is my collection.
It was an exciting activity for me, I enjoy going out in the city and looking for all kinds of funny things. I was in a group that asked to go to Lygon street. As requirement mentioned, we had to record the media upper ground, mid ground, back ground, on the gourd, and in hands. I did find something.
Upper ground
This ads was so obvious that I had no way to ignore it, I think it’s really smart to put the ads on a clear white building. The colourful content make a huge difference to the building. Also it takes pretty good spot, I was able to see it from far away. It’s pretty cool.
There are also some ads upper gourng here, it is fly in the air. However I realise I didn’t notice it right away, instead I noticed it because I was looking for something upper ground. I think its not noticeable because first, their colour are mix with the trees ; secondly, they are flying that people can not see it clearly.
Mid ground
There was few billboards that can be counted as mid ground media. In my eyes, it’s really clever to set up ads here. It’s a method to draw people’attention to surround environment, while they are waiting for bus.
we keep walking to restaurants, I saw they put their menus outside and play loud music, or some of desserts store showing their cakes in shop windows, I can’t help to look and imagine to seat inside and have a good meal. I noticed that I’ve get in their “trap “already.
On the Ground
Forgiving me I didn’t pay attention to the things under ,this might be the only media I found on the ground. The wall is full of information, but this one takes especially big part. I noticed it also because it’s colour is stand out than others. Although I don’t understand what context about.
In the hand
I think fliers can be a kind of media that in my hands if I get any, but unfortunately I didn’t get . Then I see the phone in my hands is also a type of media, and it’s a main media transportation in our life. Indeed, im so addicted to my phone or iPad, they are main machines for me to connect to my friends and family. What is more,the notifications that I get everyday force me to accept news immediately. For example, the FM station , the Twitter, the email, the shopping app, the map, the google, the Skype, they are all about updating information.
As a whole, I’m really glad to have a chance talking to my peers and knowing them more. We had pleasant time in the group work, they helped me a lot. I was a little regret because I only paid attention on commercial ads, I believe I still learned something about what a media is overall.
