Reflection 4

In Class 7 it was suggested that there can sometimes be traditions or tendencies in coverage that we might be able to ascribe to particular cultures, genres, periods in filmmaking history*, and of course, to individual filmmakers.  Have you noticed any in your own viewing?

*Another factor, which were yet to touch on, is the way in which technological developments can make possible kinds of coverage which may have been, hitherto, costly, unrealistic or even impossible.  Can you think of a possible example?

When I personally talk about feature films, I will definitely think of the editing techniques of cross cutting. First of all, because it is used to process the plot, the process can be abridged to facilitate generalization, save space, expand the amount of information in the film, and strengthen the rhythm of the film; second, because this technique is a flat list of several clues, mutual. To set off and form a contrast, it is easy to produce a strong artistic infection effect. Griffith and Hitchcock are both masters who are very good at using this kind of montage. Griffiths “Intolerance: Love’s Struggle Throughout the Ages” puts events in four different centuries and different regions into one film and separately describes them with a mothers cradle lens in the middle. It shows a common theme, and all eras reject differences. Things already. This is an example of different time and space.

The application of digital technology can redefine the expressiveness of film art. With the participation of digital technology, the computer can design the running trajectory of shooting, and it can be repeated without limit, and then synthesized by digital technology, so that a new way of transition is born. People’s thinking and concepts have developed so rapidly, and the images produced by traditional film recording and painting methods restrict the expansion of screen audiovisual thinking, and are far from satisfying the requirements of imaginative artists. At this time, the appearance of computers announced the birth of another method to obtain lifelike images. The picture created by the computer can not only simulate reality, but even surpass reality, achieve unimaginable picture effects, and greatly expand the expression space of film art. For example, the use of Avatar, Simul-Cam and the Virtual camera helps directors watch and direct CGI scenes like other normal reality shows. So as to obtain a better shooting effect.
