About the final project, I want to make a documentary about a chef.

His name is Edwardo and he came to Australia when he was 15 years old. When he finish the high school education, he started to learn cooking and he got Commercial cookery certificate 3 and 4/ Asian cookery certificate 3/ Patisserie certificate 3. And now he’s learning dessert at Le Cordon Bleu. He loves cooking, he thinks when he makes food and shows it to others, it can take happiness and satisfaction to others; whether it is Chinese food or dessert, people who like this food will feel happy, as chef , their food are enjoyed by others, they will be happy too. I think it is a good story.

Also, he made a small restaurant at his house. People with 3 to 5 could buy some vegetable and meat to his house and he cooks for them, then they eat together. He thought in this way he could practice his cooking skill and get more friends, he would like to do it. I think he’s so cool. So I want to make a documentary about his life. I wanna film some clips like he goes to Market to buy some vegetables and he cooks food. Also, I will interview him and use the voice over.

Before I watched “A bite of China”. It’s a TV documentary produced by CCTV, China, and the first large-scale documentary in China. It presents all kinds of delicious food, and “A bite of China” will show the flavor of life of ordinary Chinese people, show the story of people and food, through food to see the community. And I will use some skills from it to show the food.

About the final project we want to talk about a Chinese couple’s life in Australia. They came to Australia for their daughter and grandson. Their daughter has emigrated to Australia and got married and had children, but because their daughter is too busy working, they don’t even have time to cook for their children. So the old couple can only come to Australia from China to help their daughter to look after their grandson. But the old couple cannot speak English so they are so difficult to live in Australia. Also, their grandson can hardly speak Chinese so that it is difficult for the old couple to chat with their grandson.

Also, we want to show the generation gap from grandparents and grandson. They also have culture conflict so they sometimes feel confused or boring. They want to come back to China but they also need to take care of their grandson, so the old couple are so entanglement now. We want to show the culture conflict and the generation gap to audiences. In media 2, we made a documentary about a Chinese old man who works at QVM, and he also feel lonely although he came to Australia for 25 years.

Thus, we think we could make this documentary for those who have same problems. For me, my parents do not want me to stay at Australia, because they think it’s so far.So we think this topic can cause a lot of resonance and reflection.

Firstly, I watched a Chinese documentary named Still Life(2006) and this documentary was directed by Zhangke Jia. This documentary depicts two men and women from shanxi to the three gorges. I watched it twice. The first time, I watched without pause, the second time, I analyzed every detail. Zhangke Jia is so, every shot is so expressive, every dialogue that let people thinking.
In addition to the storyline, I want to talk about the footage. It has he fuzzy opening, people who live on the bottom of the boat, they play cards, smoke, daze, fortune telling, hot weather, and finally stand in the stern of Han Sanming(leading character). More than one Chinese director tried to use extras and the original performance of the underlying concern, but either with a fairy tale ending to wipe away the tears out of the cinema audience in the light red wine green to forget those suffering. From the perspective of God or compassion to the audience that he overlooks, the watch is a kind of compassion and charity. Jia Zhangke’s film, however, threw the ambiguous concern aside and told you the fact that, whether you saw it or not, you were moved. There are people like this in your life.

Then, I think I can change the final work topic and work with fay together. Fay talked the story to me and I thought it can be a big question nowadays. Many Chinese go to Australia to study or work and they want to stay in Australia, but their parents are often the most difficult, they can’t discourage their children to pursue good life, and no way to live in unfamiliar places, they even cannot speak the language. Thus, we think we could show the reality thing.
