Assignment #5.2: Studio reflection – Caroline

Reflection of two selected groups of work from my own studio

The first piece of project work that I’d li ke to reflect on is this Melbourne Digi Tours, this could be an amazing app in aspect to reactivating the city’s energy. Due to the covid city lock down, to reactivate the city, they’ve created this app that has a number of different digital augmented reality tours to offer to the tourists whether the on site or at home. The highlight that I’d like the most about this project is that, it could be link to the mobile media art, as it’s an app but has amazing art reality tours that composed this relationship between technology and art together. This app also includes interactions with the users to view the reality art, which provides the users more experiences.

Another piece of project work that I’d like to reflect on is Friend, which is a mental-health app that has an AI bot to communicate with users and keeps the users away from social anxiety or social distress. I really like the idea of having an AI bot acting as a psychological help for a lot of users who don’t know who to talk to in aspects to their depression. Because not everyone has the determination to actually go and find someone to talk to deeply. Another reason why this app stands out to me is because, most of the app are like socialising app or functioning app, but this one is really trying to provide well-being to the users, which is also a sufficient way to use the platform of social media and provide mental help to the public.

Reflection of two selected groups of work from another studio (The scene in cinema):

From my perspective, I suppose the key idea this final project of this studio is having the ability of producing a short clip of movie-like video. The main focus is to show their ability of using shooting techniques to create a nice videos which can show the main theme of their video.

The two selected projects are: Jessie and George, and The Tinder Date.

Jessie and George is a quite longer video clip that tells a story between a boy and a girl enchanting each other, and the four possibilities that happens between them. The background music was nicely used to show the mood of the four versions as well as the character’s inner feelings. It also tries to use different camera angles and slight changes on the actors to illustrate the characteristics between each versions. Even the scripts of the two characters among the four versions are the same, but the use of camera movements and background music totally changed the mood of the videos. Their use of shooting techniques were highly represented by this shot video clip.

Another piece of work is The Tinder Date, which tells a story of a girl meeting up with a date from dating app, and realised that the guy she’s meeting up with is a murderer wanted by the police. It starts off with the girl viewing a piece of news on her phone, which is talking about a murderer is on the run. And when she actually meets the guy, who says himself is a butcher up in the north. Which also implies that he could be the murder. Lastly, the girl saw a wanted picture of the murderer, and realised that the murderer is sitting right in front of her. This video clip is short but yet full of tension, its narrative plot is suspenseful, really eye-catchy for the audience.
