Workshop 6

For the tutorial of the sixth week, we firstly seen some videos which were mainly about long shot. At first, I thought long shot is about to shooting distance: shooting a certain thing from long distance. While the long shot in the video were continual scenes, without any cutting or camera cut. It was the overall shooting of a same camera. I have seen a Chinese television which was famous for its long shot. This enable me to learn that though the long shot may be ordinary at the first sight, it can manifest the desirable emotional phenomena of the photographer for the best effect.

Off course, we had a practice about long shot. The camera was Sony MC50, the camera of last class. The teacher gave us a topic — Misunderstand. Firstly, she gave us a sheet and asked us to draw the basic story frame at the first. The sheet looked like my former storyboard. At this time, I was the photographer. Our story was about a student who entered in the wrong classroom, which was simple but interesting. In order to highlight the topic, I specifically shot the room number outside the classroom when the student entering. After finishing shooting, all groups displayed their videos, and all videos were funny and creative. I was nervous when seeing others videos, because I was not confident in myself. However, when they seeing our video and laughing , I was relaxed. In my idea, the  success video enables the audience to laugh, cry, feel sad or other emotions.

Workshop 5

For the tutorial of the fifth week, the teacher told us our project 3 — interview, which is also the main content of the class of the fifth week. We were required to find a person to interview (closer person), shoot and cut the interview to a 2-3 minutes video, and write about 500 words reaction. (Instead of mobile phone, this shooting shall be accomplished by professional camera. The Sony-MC50 was provided by the school.) At that course, the teacher also taught us how to operate the Sony-MC50. I had never used professional camera to shoot things. Meanwhile, the teacher divided us into several groups to conduct the connection between shooting and interview. 3-4 people per group, 1 as photographer, and 2 as interviewer and interviewee. The shooting was accomplished in the school, while other required materials were shot at the same time. The topic was “A survival guide to your first six weeks of University”.

Of course, there were many considerable problems during shooting, namely the light, and the shooting perspectives. After finishing shooting, we should upload the materials to the computer for cutting to manufacture is a a video of 0.5-1 minute. In my idea, the most successful part was that: we shot other materials based on the answers of the interviewee. For example, a interviewee referred to Coffee, and we shot a outdoor coffee house on the other side of the road. It was creative.

I also found some problems when cutting. Since the camera had microphone itself, the reception cannot be conducted, which made the video contain many background sounds. We didn’t know that when shooting. And if the voice of interviewee was too low, its sound would be hard to be listened to. Later, we found that there was small — scale microphone at the bag of the camera, which can effectively solve the problem.

Workshop 4

Today, we firstly talked about the topic of a big lesson in small lesson: passion. I chose the media professional, because I wanted to know exactly how to skillfully use the media related software. After four weeks’ formal class, it met my expectations in this respect, so I had passion on it. But there were some aspects making my passion gone a little. It was a bit different from what I expected. I thought I could get a better understanding of the differences in media perceptions between the different countries or let me know more about the business model behind reality show, TV shows, movies, etc. I wanted to know exactly how a program was formed. Of course, it is possible that I just started learning soon, so I had not learned this part yet. After that, we showed the video made by ourselves to the classmates on the same table, and let them make an evaluation. Because my video was not complete, so they thought that it had better add music and a few words in the video, etc. but one of them said she thought that I made video with good originality and I thought that my video was good too. I thought that most of people would appreciate the works made by themselves.
