Assignment 0 – What I want from this studio

  • Learn more photography techniques and photography methods.
  • Exercise more about the video and audio editing technology.
  • Provide some convincing works for me in future job interviews.
  • understand and have a very clear concept of non-fiction media.

When I started to choose between theory and practice, I intended to choose a studio with higher practicality. Because the person who knows himself best is himself, I prefer to accept and learn the technology that needs more technology in operation than the pure theoretical research, so that is the reason why I chose Real to Reel. I used to take a course on the studio of basic photography, which was interesting at that time, and when I successfully took some photos that made me feel very satisfied with myself, it gave me the feeling that “I could have made such a perfect work.”So I hope that I can take my photography further by “Real to Reel” this semester. If I can, I hope to learn more photography techniques and photography methods related to this photography technology that I have never met before (such as setting camera parameters or placing lights between microphones, etc.).

Moreover, I also hope that I can exercise more about video and audio editing technology, probably because I haven’t used the relevant photographic editing software for a long time, so now I am almost unfamiliar with the operation of this software. At the same time, I would like to take this opportunity to re-learn the skills I have forgotten. I also hope to work with other students to create our good works, which will also provide some impressive works for me in future job interviews.

Besides, to be honest, I don’t have a very clear concept of non-fiction media until now, because even now, I just think that non-fiction media is the same as documentaries. That’s another reason I chose Real to Reel: I’m interested in documentaries. Although I admitted before I took the first week of classes after school that my idea of documentaries might be too one-sided. Absolutely, it requires a very strict way to record facts, no extra ornate decoration, and narrative as the main form of expression. But later on, I found that non-fiction media can be expressed in many forms, not only by different editing techniques but also in abstract form (which surprises me). Although I don’t know if my understanding of non-fiction media is correct or wrong, I intend to break all my previous ideas about non-fiction media through this course from now on. I want to understand it again from the most fundamental point of view.
