We listed ideas of Task4 in last class, and said what we were going to show you of this week briefly. I simply recorded the sounds of objects (scissors, knead sponge, spray, cat’s snoring, second hand.) around me on my cellphone last week. Because I knew what the sound came from, so I didn’t think it was difficult to identify them deservedly. But to my surprise, Hannah and some students didn’t recognize the sound clearly. This is very interesting. When people have no impact on the image, if just listen to the sound it is difficult to know where they come from, after all, there are thousands of objects in my mind.
Of course, Hannah also gives her advice: to let your mind be more open, pay more attention to things, record more sounds, and try to combine may cause other people feel different. The audio I’m recording now is more in line with curiosity, and I want people to know what it is.An example of the sound collage on last Wednesday, the teacher said that the wonderful thing about the audio is that: It was made up of audio like the material I recorded, and became a sound collage that was not recognizable and had many small pieces of material. So the teacher thinks it’s interesting. What kind of feeling can give when these materials are combined? Energetic, or nervous, anxious, or calm, and soothing. When I go back and listen, wow, even I can’t remember what is the recorded voice of objects, I can only feel the emotional reaction of these audio.
I think this is a good suggestion. In this week’s class discussion, we talked about a topic of whether all things in the world need be meaningful. I think that’s a particularly good question. In fact, I also had the same problem at Task3. At first, I thought, when editing a video, there must be specific themes and ideas, so you can edit good videos. But now it doesn’t seem like that. It’s not to say that the video has no meaning is not a good video.Different people have their own interpretations of different videos, the so-called meaning is also added in this work by others. When other people don’t agree with the meaning of the video, they don’t think it’s good. This is taken for granted. After all, the culture, education, background, and experience of each person are different.
So when I asked Hannah whether I need to add images to my audio, Hannah replied that I don’t need to shoot videos, because my focus is on sound effects”, if you add an image, It will associate the sound with the image. And this is: a little bit alike in narrator explains the image video. This eliminates the curiosity of the audio, and it doesn’t allow us to notice more. One of the questions of “how our works might create sensory experiences as opposed to meaning” in last week’s class discussion was similar. I recorded without the audio image is a kind of sensory experiences, if there is no image when people listen to the audio, and different interpretations, or different feelings, and there is no so-called meaning is imposed on them.
