The video prompt that we did was from the idea of Modern family, which is like a interviewing with the characters and with flashback footage of what they are talking about, which I think would be a really good way to use in the actual web-series that we are making.
The video that the other group did was like a vlog-type theme, with Liz talking to a camera about what happened on the first day of her new work office, and insert some flashbacks clips when she talks about some weird event that she encounters.
Both group is using sort of a method of telling the story using the character narration, it has the feel of she is sharing this experience with us, like we are her friends or therapist, going back to these events in real time and we experience these by her side.
I notice that these interview type or vlog-type storytelling method is largely used in recent web-
series or shows, such as American Horror Story Season 6, which many reviews or critics said it is the scariest season so far. I think the reason why is first the story itself is very complying and also how it is telling the story to the audience is with the actual person that experience these weird thing, and as the audience it is really hard to tell that it is fictional or actual event when you really merge with each episode. Also with House Of Card, it also uses the main character sometimes talking directly to the camera about his inner thoughts, it create this atmosphere of he leads us to this world of politician and his personal life.
I hope the writers would consider our ideas with the series, and the characters that we really like, such as Arabella, Christian the Vampire. In the meantime, as media student I think we need to think of some innovative ideas of storytelling and learn how to use any equipment that we are not familiar with, for me, I would like to learn more about sound mixing and editing specially colour coding.
