Week 10 blog

This week we talked more about the ACMI parameters and what specific things were required for assignment 4. The font is very important for these ACMI videos so it is good that we talked about how to use it more in class, as well as using lower thirds for the titles. I also had a look at the past examples which was so helpful just to see how people structured their videos, because the topics are quite broad. It helped spark more creativity for me and my group as well. My group had a really productive meeting on Thursday morning and completed a timeline for the video, found background music and worked on the script. At this point we are feeling a lot more confident and ready to begin editing the video, ready for the one minute that is due on Tuesday, week 11.

Week 9 blog

This week we presented our pitches that we had been working on to Field Carr. He was happy with our colour focus idea for our video. His feedback was helpful and we gained clarity on certain questions such as not being able to manipulate the archived footage we use, such as making them black and white. This meant we had to work out another way to display what we wanted to display during the vide but it was good to have a clearer understanding. Overall, he was happy with the relevance of exploring the psychology of colour in terms of  how that fits the ACMI brief. We then had a public holiday on Friday so there was no more content for the week.

Week 8 blog

In this week we did a showcase of our assignment two videos, whilst everyone gave feedback to each other. Everyone gives such positive feedback and encourages one another, which is motivating for the next assignment. Everyone’s quality of work is amazing and I always get really inspired by the other videos. Also, we started to prepare for our pitches to Field Carr in my group, with Bailey, Julia and Bella. We started the process by setting up a Microsoft Teams page for us to drop all of our research and ideas into.

Week 7 blog

This week we talked about assignment 4 and chose our topics and continued the showcase for assignment two. I also decided that I wanted to work in a group for assignment 4. Bella, Julia, Bailey and I formed a group and began discussing our ideas. The content for this week focused on virtual reality technology. One of the most interesting takeaways for me was how VR headsets are used on cows for their mental health, and how VR can be used for different types of therapy. There are many types of VR that I didn’t know much about before these classes, such as the Metaverse and XR (Extended Reality).  I briefly learnt about these concepts in ‘Making Media’ last year but only touched on some of them, so it was great to further my understanding in those areas.
