We have background, middle ground and fore ground in film, actually so does in audio. Listening to an audio work from Kyla Brettle – “000 Ambulance” makes me have the concept in mind even distinct. The conversation in this audio clip is basically recored from phone conversation with relatively noisy background noise to show how does medical care workers help people through the panic in life.

This is a very simple or straight forward type of recording, just combining all kinds of phone conversations and phone beeps together. It might sounds boring by just simply thinking about the recording techniques they used – just all kind of conversations through phone lines, I mean who wants to listen to some random conversation like that?

But It gives a really great result and this shows that how people’s attention can be attracted by voice or manipulated by different  kind of sounds. The background music in this clip is sometimes intense, sometimes gentle, and the speech rate is sometimes fast and anxious, sometimes soothing. Even without an image, I can still imagine every scenario. I guess this is not only the beauty of sound, but editing techniques.
