“How would you feel if your loved ones are treated differently for being who they are? Something that they have very little to no control over?”

My groupmates and I decided to explore the concept of ‘alienation’ in society and the effect that it has on other people’s relationship with one another. The story is heavily influenced by one of our groupmates experience growing up in Indonesia, how some of her friends grew up hearing bad things about their complexities and race, how ‘un’-Indonesian they look in physical terms. We were aware that this has been an issue for a very long time and we want to address it in the form that we know best. With this, we develop a story that is set in the future after humans have won the war against alien entities. These aliens look like humans so it’s hard to spot the difference. Some aliens decided to stay on Earth and some of them had fallen in love with humans, thus, the birth of generations of Alters.

The story follows 2 brothers Edward and Nathan and their journey to navigating in a world where identity is important. After their parents’ death, the older brother Edward wants to become a cop to protect his younger brother from the extreme Alters, however, he doesn’t know about Nathan’s true identity as an Alter. This obstacle will either break them apart or will strengthen their relationship as brothers.

While filming, we encounter mainly minor difficulties that we’re able to fix and continue shooting.

Following the feedback that we got from the guest panelists, we want to explore more about their relationship as brothers before revealing Nathan’s true form to the audience to give the viewers the chance to have a benefit of the doubt to Nathan’s character. Having inspired by films such as Blade Runner and Next, we aim to project and explore our ideas to our film without losing the main concept which is ‘Isolation within the society’. One of the panelists mentioned a film called Gattaca where we can explore its setting and maybe we can incorporate the concept in our film.
