Intro-flection

By Patrick Woodward

Throughout the latter half of the semester I challenged myself to create a virtual family photo album through instagram. The purpose of which was to see how shifting to a virtual platform, something that creates undying, immortal records, would change the perception of the images. Many of the images were edited to reveal how I see the subject matter of the photos upon reflection. In doing so I set out to challenge the truth and legitimacy that is depicted within my family photos, exposing the subjective nature of photographs in the process.

For many of the posts I made us of instagrams functions, like the ability to post multiple images within the one post. I found this was similar to the turn of a page in a real photo album and had a additionally allowed me to bring a revealing component to the page.

For other posts I drew heavily on the works of Kensuke Koike for inspiration and began creating some manually reconstructed artworks. In these posts I usually included videos of me showing the artwork itself, being interacted with.
