Automatic for the People Week 4 Reflection

Stardust Unveiled Audio piece:

Reflection:

Something interesting I found this week that got me super excited and squealing for 20 minutes is this AI website called vocalremover.org. There is quite a few features here but basically, you can put any song into it and it will separate the actual music from the voice. This is so handy because in the past, if an artist didn’t release an instrumental of their song, you would never be able to create a 100% clean instrumental and would have to spend much time fiddling around with audio editing programs. I was able to put a song that was is quite niche and has no instrumental version into it and with a minute, the website had created two separate audio outputs, one with the acapella/voice only and one with just the music and it is very high quality. Finally, I was able to listen to the instrumental in its purest form. It was super exciting for me.

Now for the media sketch this week. I had so much fun this week with my group, recreating our Stardust unveiled story but this time in the form of an audiobook. I am really being exposed to all the things AI can do and It has got me so excited. Being able to get such believable narration and use voices that no one i know would be able to come close to was awesome. It really brought our story to life and made it feel so real. What we could do better next time is to maybe try to add more of our personal touch to the script as when we recorded the lines ourselves using the script, we ended up mostly sticking to exactly what the AI wrote in the script.

Our “reading” for this week or video I suppose “Catching up on the weird world of LLMs” – Simon Willison (North Bay Python 2023), was very interesting and helped me to understand more about some forms of AI. Specifically, LLM or Large Language Model. I didn’t understand most of the things he spoke about to be honest, but it’s raised my awareness and opened my mind to how LLMs are used and created. He stated “it’s very rare that you get exactly what you’re looking for” when you use these and that’s sort of the main trend with AI right now, but I think we are progressing very quickly with it so soon enough, AI will be able to output exactly what we want.
