This week in class we got technical with the Sony X200 cameras. Now whilst I’ve used these cameras before, I’m still not entirely confident with them. That’s why Louise’s class on them was incredibly helpful as refresher course, especially since I consider these cameras very difficult to use. This is because A) I usually repel technology and B) I’ve dealt with these cameras before on location and have had problems come up that I just couldn’t solve with the usual trouble shooting techniques. Despite their difficulty, these cameras are worth using as they achieve a beautiful high definition result.
Whilst I am considering using a Sony X200 when shooting my artist, I know there will be pros and cons that I have to weigh up. For example these cameras are very heavy and not very easy to transport. Also their size that requires a large tripod to support their weight, could be an issue in a small studio space. Whilst I can competently use (only just) the camera, I would feel a lot more comfortable on location with someone who knew how to use the camera better than me.
I know with practise that I can improve me technical skills with these cameras. I’m contemplating using them to film my artist but will make my final decision when I find out who my artist is and the location of their studio, along with other details. Either way, I’m incredibly excited to get shooting with any camera.
