For all the good social media has done for brands and companies… use it incorrectly and you may be committing brand name suicide.

Positive brand association… out the window!

Good reputation… gone!

Campaign… shut down!

E-consultancy dedicated a page to the 2013 Top 16 social media fails  from which I found these examples…

Strip club Spearmint Rhino attempted to reach out to social media fans posting pictures of their strippers when they were babies in a guess who game… The backlash came as people noticed the video screen shot was dated 1998 which would have made the girl only 15 years old.

HMV sacked 60 people at once including the person with access to HMV’s live twitter feed who gave minute to minute updates whilst the Marketing Director is helpless to stop it.

So it goes to show… social media is not as simple or easy OR successful as it might seem…
