Week 12: Final Week

For me, this final week has been what a final week has to be. Chaos. With all our major assignments due just at the end of the week this week has been extremely busy. However, for pb4 I felt surprisingly less stressed and confused as I did with some of my other subjects (namely a group essay with 6 people). This was due to the fact that I had already found my vision for my final format of pb4 and was really pleased with it. I experimented with an online platform and figured out that this was the best way to present the event in an immersive, collaborative and participatory way.

This week was mainly spent fine-tuning the videos which inhabit the site and adding final touches to the website such as captions. In addition to this, I also completed my final reflection which was a really enjoyable experience for me. This project has been 12 weeks in the making and I’m happy to say that I am pleased with my final product. I achieved what I set out to do which was not only working with the Muslim community to create a piece, but also exploring the use of an online platform to present it.

This class has undoubtedly been one of my favourite during my time at RMIT. I have my inspiring and entertaining classmates, passionate tutor and conceptually complex content to thank for that. I feel truly lucky to have participated in this class and can only hope my next studio can live up to these standards.

Week 11 Editing

This week we learnt about the final reflection for project brief four and continued editing these pieces. One thing I hadn’t considered in regards to my final reflection is the idea of showing my final product to people who don’t know what it’s about at all to get a raw, genuine response. Additionally Kim suggested we use a questionnaire in order to focus the responses of our audience onto particular elements. I think this would work for me as I am considering emailing my final product to both Hana, and another lady who works with her who runs Hana’s social media to get their responses. In regards to the questions I will ask them, I think the most important questions will revolve around if I successfully depicted the event in a way that is true to its form and meaning. In addition to this I will ask Hana specifically her thoughts on my portrayal of her and whether she thinks it represents her correctly.

Additionally, we also focused on some of the finer editing details which can make the world of difference to the final product. For example, editing with headphones is a must in order to hear every minute blip which must be edited out. Kim also recommended that all our audios levels must not exceed -6. This was really helpful to me as when I went back I realised how many of my audio tracks were above this, this also became more obvious to me when I edited with headphones.

Ultimately this week helped a lot in regards to the fine-tuning aspects of editing as we rapidly get closer and closer to our final deadline!
