How did you author (the photo or video) you recorded for upload to Instagram?
I shot this video with my iPhone 6s rear facing camera in “normal” mode in Instagram. I used no flash or zoom in, however I did edited the color with VSCOcam after that.
The video was taken in a house in Brunswick. It’s a simple housing door but I’m always amazed everytime I open it since it leads to so many doors inside. It reminds me of the feeling when we stand in front of so many choices/paths which will all lead us to different future scenarios. Or at least thats what we think.
I discussed with my wonderful tutor today about the theme for my Instagram. We came up with so many interesting idea like letters on a doors, quirky doors, doors lead to doors,… And we’re both in love with the idea of doors lead to doors, which I’m currently pursuing although it’s tough to find one like that. Without violating other people’s house.
Recording inside the house was hard since the lighting was not good. However, I managed to fix it by adjusting the highlights and exposure, increasing the saturation and adding a vignette.
The Instagram aspect ratio didn’t really affect the way I record the video. In fact, I find it’s the same with using basic camera mode of iPhone. Like I mentioned in the previous post, Instagram’s design is straight-forward and simple but quite flexible with multiple recording modes. However I only used the normal mode to create this. If I can do it again, I think I may play with the rewind mode to create a more interesting short clip. Also I may add suitable music to the clip, something bring out a mysterious vibe to fit the vibe of the doors.
I didn’t enable the autoplay mode since I don’t want to bother people who don’t want to watch my clip. Not that I have any followers in that Instagram account but it’s my mindset whenever I upload a video.
I think the video this week wasn’t as beautiful as last week. Pardon me but the theme is tricky so I have a hard time finding something fit my theme while remain appealing as last week at the same time. Instagram theme has become a thing undeniably. Manovich (2016) stated that “The first rule: develop a particular style and always use it for all the photos in your feed. By 2015, we see even more structure. In addition to earlier term style, another term becomes popular dominating “how to” advice, posts, and help videos: a theme. A theme may combine certain subjects, a particular color palette, and contrast choice.” (Manovich 2016, p.126) And I completely understand the importance of a theme, however, in this case, I have to admit being failed at developing a theme visually.
How did you publish (the photo or video) you recorded for upload to Instagram?
I hardly record a video or take a picture then immediately publish it. For this video, I didn’t do that also. It took me half a day to finally publish the video because I couldn’t find the time to edit it.
After I’m done with editing, normally I will choose the time between 8:30am to 1am or 6pm to 10pm to publish and reach as many people as possible, to be honest. However since this is a task and I have 0 follower in that account, I just randomly uploaded the video. I neither added location nor tagged anyone/anything. The only thing I added was the caption: “Which door will you choose?”
How did you distribute (the photo or video) you published on Instagram to other social media services?
As I admitted in the last post, I didn’t really want anyone to see it but I still had to distribute it to Facebook, so I did it without any hashtag, caption or tag. I just simply hit the share button in the Instagram post and chose Facebook as the go-to platform. I didn’t share it to Twitter because I don’t have an account.
