Workshop
#2
Easter break seemed to fly by really quickly and before i knew it, i was up at 830am for my 930am media 1 practical. When i first started this course, the practical seemed nothing serious. It seemed to be like an extra long tutorial where we’d learn something further in depth. However this week’s practical was something different. Having the opportunity to play around with what seemed like professional communication devices such as the microphone recorder and being given the task to mix sounds using Adobe Audition got me all interested in media again.
You’d think that a microphone or recorder would simply capture sounds, similar to what you’d expect to see in a concert. It turns out there are different types of microphones which serve different purposes. In this practical session, we got to play around with the handheld mic. Recording sound are very different to how i portrayed it to be. On any other day, i’d simply put the microphone straight to someone’s mouth or wherever the sound is coming from. But what i learnt that day is that the volume has to be between -12 and -6. When you consider the background noises and the actual thing you want to record, it’s not all that an easy task after all!
