Week 9 Brief 3

The Cat (by Marilyn Singer)

I prefer warm fur,

a perfect fire to lie beside,

a cozy lap where I can nap,

an empty chair when she’s not there.

I want heat on my feet

on my nose

on my hide.

No cat I remember dislikes December inside.

Artist Statement:

We chose a poem by Marilyn Singer, the name of which is The Cat. The poem is very simple and expresses a feeling of interdependence and warmth between people and animals. When a person at home, a cat will accompany you quietly, even if the weather in December is particularly cold, the heart will be warm. In the process of video editing, we want to show an important part of people living with cats.

When I read this poem, I had a picture in my mind. There is a winter stove, the author sitting quietly beside and touch the cat’s warm fur. Although the winter is very cold, with the cat’s companion, the author will never feel cold at all.

At the same time, let me think about my own experience. As a overseas student, leaving my parents to a new city and start a new life. When winter comes, besides the cold weather, I will feel lonely, when I come back to home. However, if I have a cute cat, I will not feel lonely and cold when I am staying at home. Because people and cats live together for a long time, they will develop a feeling. When you are outside, you will also be worry about the cat all the time. I would like to hurry home to accompany the cat, so that it will not feel bored and lonely. At the same time, when you feel lonely, it will be around you. The cat has gradually become the sustenance of your heart.

Because the poem is easy to understand, the idea is that our videos will be closer to daily life, such as touching its fur, and having fun with it. It’s the simplest way to show the content of the poem (although there is no stove in the house).
