I have a little feeling of reading this reading.
First, ‘The live episode of The Bill was unique in the field of live drama as the normal shooting practice of the programme was to utilise the single camera method, therefore employing only one camera to shoot all the required shots moving the camera from angle to angle, the shots were then edited together in post-production to form a coherent sequence and a linear story.’(MacDonnell, 2013 p.28) I’m very interested in single shot. I found a Korean music video from YouTube. This video is shot from the beginning to the end. I feel unbelievable.
In my view, multi shot and single shot are different in shooting skills. I think a single shot is a bit more complicated. There are many things that need to be considered, such as the motion of camera and the adjustment of angle of view, which also have severe requirements for lighting and sound effects. Although some people think that single lens shooting is like a line connecting the whole video, the video appears to be complete and coherent. Others believe that multi lens shooting is good for later editing. When editing, you can choose the best angle to make the picture more diverse. But I think the multi lens photography, lighting and sound effect is a big problem. Because of different angles, lighting and sound effects are different, especially when they are broadcast live. How to solve this problem is the test of the director.
In comparison, I probably prefer the way of single shot. First of all, it’s cool, isn’t it? In particular, look at some music videos. Secondly, there is not much trouble in editing. Multiple lenses need to be compared, which lens is more appropriate to appear in the screen, and need to think and compare.
