Week 11, we saw the film ‘Snowpiercer’. First of all, I thought it is a Science fiction film. However, I was attracted by the storyline.
“Snowpiercer” shows that, in July 2014, 79 countries in order to reverse the global greenhouse effect in the atmosphere, to spread a refrigerant CW-7. Unexpectedly, the temperature dropped sharply and the world was covered with ice and snow. The surviving residents boarded the global train made by Wilford. This column by train by the traction machine design talent, according to social class used to arrange the annual tour of a global car. The story began with the common narrative Hollywood hero, tells the story of the boot people started a revolution in the youth rebellion under the leadership of Curtis, with the breakthrough to enter the front compartment successively, about the truth of this world has gradually surfaced.
‘‘We are all stuck inside this blasted train. We are all prisoners in this hunk of metal,’ Wilford advises when he is sighted – and Bong Joon-ho enacts this mindset in the feature’s contrast of evident restriction and energy that incessantly moves.'(Metro Magazine p.57) This train is a microcosm of the human society, the film from the beginning of the use of a variety of strong contrast, the poor and the rich, the right and the right to do class conflict incisively and vividly. However, class is not the whole of society. With the revolutionaries coming from the end to the front, the performance of the film gradually rises, and the contradiction between individual freedom and the overall survival is also gradually highlighted. From the beginning of the revolutionary uprising leader Curtis had shown his “Death is preferable to slavery” determination, in the melee a drama, he sacrificed his brother to capture the hostage at the lofty realm, to die for my. But at the end of the film, after the “balance theory” of baptism, he decided to make a car crash “irrational”, showed that he was free to die and live maggots usually chose the former. The human race has paid a terrible price, but the survivors have earned the dignity of being human.
Bong Joon-ho has wrapped up this fable with very typed shells. The train will be closed environment contradictions together, is commonly used in routine commercial films. And the gradual process of occupying the carriages is like the game of video games. South Korea action mark kick, kicked off the film, turn to show the cold weapon against and sauna in the pursuit of the kindergarten, the bloody massacre and fun action scenes such as one. Both sides played the tricks from the barrels of gasoline siege to the soldier battle, creating a wave of anti climax. As early as in the ‘The Host’, Bong Joon-ho showed the ability to control the action scene, this time to grasp the rhythm, type is more accurate. ‘Writer-director Bong Joon-ho’s The Host (2006) took the Korean effects-driven blockbuster to a new level, both in its transnational production arrangements and in the international acclaim it received.'(Brian Yecies, Ae-Gyung Shim and Ben Goldsmith 2011, p.139) As we know, nowadays, more and more international cooperation movies are being made.
‘Snowpiercer’ though it was Bong Joon-ho’s first English movie, but he is undoubtedly the most complete expression of the concept of the works of their own world.
