This week, we saw an Iran film, called ‘Offside’. In my personal idea, this film is similar to ‘Queen’. The film shows the aspirations of the people of Iran to yearn for freedom and to strive for equality between men and women. To be honest, it was my first time to watch a movie in Iran, and I never knew Iran banned women from entering the stadium before watching the movie.
On the one hand, the film shows a fun storyline, the girls managed to get into the stadium to watch the game. On the other hand, this film shapes the enthusiasm and kindness of the people of Iran, as well as the status of women and problems in the country’s policy system.
First, as we know, in this film, the cause of the story is a football match, but women are not allowed to watch it. According to the guard’s words, “this is the law.”. Such a provision in the audience seems ridiculous, why can’t a woman with a man watching a woman? Why go to covered themselves? Men in Iran and other countries in our country seem to be more or less the same on weekdays, but the “no freedom” and “inequality” that women in Iran are really serious about. That’s why the film “offside” is so heavy that it puts the story under the question of freedom and equality. But fortunately, it is very pleasant and exciting, because the movie focuses on the football, this wonderful sport make the world crazy.
Second, the whole movie was lost in a lovely atmosphere. The girls seemed to be dealing with the soldiers, but they were not. The soldiers were helpless. They also wanted to watch the game and wanted to go home. They didn’t want to lock the girls in the bars. The girls are not dealing with the military, nor are they restricting the girls. But all people struggle against unreasonable rules and regulations. The soldiers had to carry out their responsibilities, as one of the soldiers said: “It’s a responsibility.” Soldiers have to maintain unreasonable rules and regulations in order to fulfill their obligations and restrict women’s freedom. And the girls are in order to break through such procedures to watch the ball, they dress up, with a towel, flag obscured face disguised as a boy, even a soldier standing guard, they bend over backwards but also to like “a boy” mentioned Japanese female fans like to sit in the normal cheer for their national team. On the one hand, women fans have been forced to play by hook. On the other hand, this is the collision between Iran’s women’s rights and oppression. All these contradictions only began in Iran’s irrational rules and regulations.
Good point! Thanks for writing this!
I really like your idea about doubting the rule or the law for the females. I actually agree with you that everyone on the earth should be treated fairly. This movie has a similar theme about women. Both of these two movies’ directors give us the feeling that girls are not inferior to men.
Meanwhile, I like the idea you have mentioned that people all know the rule is unfair, but the soldiers need to obey the rules and orders. In fact, with the time goes by, there are more and more people in the whole world realize the unfair treatments for the females. I think with all of people’s struggle, females’ status would be changed.
